Auf der aktuellen Games Developer Conference (GDC) stellte AMD erstmals seine neuen Grafikkarten der „Radeon Sky“ Serie vor, die vornehmlich fürs Streaming von Games vorgesehen sind. So sollen auch schwächere Endgeräte -Smartphones, Tablets, Fernseher – ein brauchbares Gaming-Erlebnis bieten, nur eben von einem Server gestreamt.
Abgesehen von der Streaming-Technologie, mit der hochwertige Grafiken in Echtzeit übermittelt werden, sind technisch am ehesten die neuen Radeon Sky Grafikkerne interessant. Der Beiname „Sky“ zeigt schon, dass es sich um etwas anderes handeln muss, als die sonst „Radeon HD“ benannten AMD Desktop-Grafikkarten.

Im Prinzip basieren aber auch die Radeon Sky-Karten auf der neuen GraphicsCore Next-Architektur. Das größte Modell, die Radeon Sky 900 beherbergt beispielsweise gleich drei solcher Grafikkerne, unterstützt von 6 GB DDR5-Speicher und 3584 Streaming-Prozessoren. Die Speicherbandbreite dieses Radeon Sky-Modells beträgt ausserdem satte 480GB/s und wird unterstützt von der RapidFire-Technologie für ein „highly efficient and responsive experience“, wie engadget schreibt. GDC also marked the 10th anniversary of the launch of the original iconic AMD „Ruby“ demo. To celebrate this milestone, AMD unveiled a sneak peek of its remodeled and reinvented Ruby, which was designed and developed by IllFonic, and harnesses the power of Crytek’s CryEngine® 3 development engine. The latest AMD „Ruby“ demo is still under production and is designed to highlight real-world gaming possibilities of AMD Radeon graphics technology.
